Four-Hour Shared Salmon Excursion
On all our salmon charters, the captain uses Downriggers,
A downrigger is a device used while fishing using the trolling method; this gets the bait or lures the desired depth. A downrigger is similar to a miniature crane with a two to a five-foot horizontal adjustable pole or boom that supports a lead cannonball, commonly 12 to 20 pounds, by a stainless steel cable (Or Heavy Duty Braided Downrigger Line). A clip, also known as a “release,” attaches a fishing line to the cannonball. And allows the bait or lure to drag behind the boat. The pole is set in a holder until the fish bites the hook as it is moving through the water. When the fish bites the hook and pulls the line out of the clip, and it’s you and the fish.

Bald Eagle
(Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
The bald eagle is the largest resident bird of prey in Alaska with a wingspan of up to 8 feet and weighing in at between 8 to 14 pounds.
Found only in North America, bald eagles are more abundant in Alaska than anywhere else in the US. The Alaska population is estimated to be around 30,000 birds
Killer whale’s
(Orcinus orca)
The photo above is a once in a lifetime shot taken on one of our 2015 sightseeing trips!
You may have the chance to see and photograph one yourself. Depending on the time of year you are in Ketchikan.
The Orcinus orca is the largest member of the dolphin family. It lives in small groups called “pods,” which are usually made up of relatives & family members ranging from juveniles (called calves) to adult males (called bulls).
Killer whales in Alaska are either residents or transients. We have a Pod that is residents to southeast Ketchikan Alaska and know by the name Crinkle fin.
Killer whales are 25 to 30 feet in length. They often navigate at the surface, spewing every so often as they breathe and swim. They are sometimes seen jumping out of the water, as in the photo above. Ask about our group rates. Discount prices apply to 10 or more guests.
Humpback Whale’s
These whales live in the seas around the world. They travel unbelievable distances every year and have one of the longest migrations of any creature on the planet. Some populations swim 5,000 miles from tropic breeding regions to colder, plentiful feeding grounds. Humpback whales feed on small fish and shrimp-like krill, filtering vast volumes of ocean water through their baleen plates that act as a sieve.
The humpback whale earns its common name from the distinctive hump on its back. Its long pectoral fins inspired its scientific name, Megaptera, which means “big-winged.” Humpback whales are a favorite of whale watchers―they are often surfacing actively, jumping out of the water and slapping the surface, creating a gigantic splash.

Wonder what species are in Alaska?
This link was an informative find it lists all species found in Alaska! although some of them are not found on our island since we are in the southeast. Ketchikan takes up about 2% of Revillagigedo Island. The island is about 35 miles long by 55 miles wide, about the size of Road Island and has a population of around 8,000.
